20 October 2006

From the Enchanted Forest, which this year took place in Faskally Wood, Pitlochry. Took a lot of pictures, but I think this is one of my favourites.
Photos were all taken hand-held - high ISO and relatively slow shutter. Thank heavens for the image stabilisation on my new camera. Still, had to do some post-processing to get rid of noise, and a wee bit of sharpening. The results are still far from perfect, but they'll do.

24 July 2006

I'm not really sure I captured what I was seeing. That black spot is a hot air balloon. It's the clouds to the right of it that really caught my eye - the way the sun catching them almost made a bit of a rainbow. I guess it's one of those things you had to actually see.

View over Innerleithen from whatever that hill behind my house is called.

The climax of Innerleithen Games Week Cleikum ceremonies - Burning the De'il on Caerlee Hill.
Ok, the picture's actually taken from one of Innerleithen's other hills. Possibly a little far off... Posted by Picasa

Missed most of the fancy dress parade, but did manage to catch this picture of the tail end of it disappearing down the road. Posted by Picasa

25 June 2006

On the way home we stopped to visit Duncan's brothers. One of them lives in Arisaig, the other was camping in the area. Snapped this picture of the bay beside the campsite.

On the way home. Taken on the ferry from Tobermory to Kilchoan.

23 June 2006

Took a wander round the Art in Nature walk at Calgary today.
Water feature - hanging aluminium casting by Patrick Elder.

No idea if this is one of the art pieces, and if it is, what it's called or who it's by. Woven ball nestling in the crook of a tree.

Three Ravens by Andy Mortley and Matthew Reade. The ravens are carved elm, and the branches are forged steel.

Went to Iona today. This sculpture sits in the middle of the cloister courtyard.

21 June 2006

View along one of Mull's wonderful roads.I think this is the B8035. Yes, it's single track. No, there's nowhere to go on either side of you, unless you find a passing place. Luckily, all those we met on this road did know what to do in that situation. Unlike on some of the other (equally narrow) roads...

19 June 2006

Most of the day was very wet, but about 8pm the scky cleared and we got some sun. Went out for a walk. View across the Sound of Mull to the mainland.

12 June 2006

Playing with shutter speed; long exposure time to try to get blurring on the falling water. Didn't quite work out.

9 June 2006

Thought I'd better take a picture of a peony flower before they were all over.

4 June 2006

In the back garden this afternoon, I caught this honey bee on a broom flower. This is a detail cropped from the original picture.

Bad picture of the Forth Road Bridge, taken from a train on the Forth Rail Bridge on a rainy Wednesday morning.

18 May 2006

Out for a walk in the rain. Thought I'd try something 'abstract' and this was the result. Not brilliant, but not bad.

15 May 2006

Cut logs. It was dull and riny, but the colour of the top ones almost makes it look like it was sunny.

13 May 2006

Taken in the back garden. There are too many of these there, but only because I didn't pick them when they were still yellow.

12 May 2006

Two trees, or two trunks of the same tree, not sure which.

It's amazing what you find parked in our work car park.

Out for a walk. This is the old railway line going out of Innerleithen towards Peebles.

30 April 2006

Parked in Fort George, saw this sign and just had to take the picture.
The small sign in the middle, not the other big yellow one.

19 April 2006

No idea what kind of tree this is. The red of the 'flowers' caught my eye when I was out for a walk.

This black cat is one of the regular visitors to the garden.

A little bit of snow on the wall outside the kitchen window.

2 March 2006

I would have taken more attempts to get this right, but the batteries in the camera ran out. I'll try it again another time. Wooden puzzle ball. It tends to fall apart if you pick it up wrong.

1 March 2006

A gorgeous night driving home. The moon was fabulous - new, but you could faintly see the rest of it as well. I stopped to try to get a picture of it, but it just wasn't going to happen. So a picture of my clock instead, showing the current moon phase.

28 February 2006

Beginning, middle and end. Three stages in the making of a bracelet. Top left, a pile of rings as they come. Top right, opened rings in preparation for weaving. Bottom, the bracelet in progress. A little blurry - I'll try to get a better picture of it once it's complete.
